The board approved a request for Individualized Educational Evaluations (IEEs) after a parent disagreed with the district’s assessment results. Melanie Grundy of the Special Education student services team explained that the parent has the right under the parent code to request an IEE at public expense when they disagree with district assessments.
Grundy said the contract covers a full psychoeducational assessment as well as occupational and speech evaluations. The board approved the contract by a voice vote recorded as 3–0.
Grundy noted that when a family requests an IEE the district can either file for its own assessment or agree to pay for the independent evaluation at public expense; in this instance the board approved the IEE contract.
