Council approves disposal of surplus town equipment; staff and developer to assist with striping

The Whiteland Town Council approved disposal of surplus equipment and discussed road-striping assistance from a local developer.
Director of Administration Carmen Young told council the town had three unusable trailers and a 2003 mixer at the street garage that were no longer needed; staff said a buyer is ready to scrap the equipment and the town would receive payment. "We already have somebody ready to to come and take all of those, and scrap them, basically," Carmen said. The council expressed consensus approval for disposal, and staff said the proceeds would be returned to town funds per standard practice.
On roads, the council heard that developer Redwood will stripe White Road west of U.S. 31 after completing its paving work and will extend striping all the way up to U.S. 31. Town staff said they are pricing striping equipment and exploring borrowing equipment from the county or neighboring Greenwood. Administration invited public-works superintendents (water, sewer, and public works) to attend future meetings to take project ownership. "We'd like to kind of move forward...having those superintendents take ownership, in leading big projects," Carmen said.
Decisions: The council gave staff consensus approval to dispose of the three trailers and mixer (sale/scrap) and accepted the plan for Redwood to stripe the specified road sections after its paving work. Staff and department heads will coordinate next steps, get quotes for repairs (including a collapsed shed referenced by a council member) and proceed with cleanup and striping plans.
