Elgin moves forward on EV charging expansion: buys four Level 2 stations, awards electrical work to Calimber Electric

The Elgin City Council approved a purchase agreement for four networked Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations and later awarded a bid for electrical and site upgrades to Calimber Electric, moves staff said will expand the city's public charging network.
Staff said the chargers will be installed at the Highlands of Elgin and Bowes Creek Country Club golf facilities. The purchase is being made through a joint-purchasing cooperative to secure favorable pricing; the project is partially offset by about $30,000 remaining from a U.S. Department of Energy grant originally awarded for $162,000, which previously funded two electric fleet vehicles and associated fleet charging equipment.
Separately, the council moved to award the electrical and site upgrades for the Highlands of Elgin and Bowes Creek to Calimber Electric in the amount recorded in the bid packet. Planning and public-works staff said the combined actions will prepare both golf facilities for additional Level 2 charging capacity.
What the council did: Approved the purchase of four Level 2 networked charging stations from Carbon Day EV Charging and awarded bid number 25-039 for electrical and site upgrades to Calimber Electric (vote recorded 9-0 for the bid award). Staff will coordinate installation and use remaining grant funds to offset purchase costs where applicable.
