Somers board accepts donations for scholarship and Primrose playground; BOCES lease to generate roughly $150,000

Amanda said the James Farina scholarship fund balance is now “just shy of $104,000” since the scholarship began. The Summers Education Foundation donation will fund playground equipment and construction intended primarily for universal prekindergarten students so the UPK children will not need to share the kindergarten playground, Amanda said.
The board also approved continuing the lease of classroom and office space to Northern BOCES; Amanda said the lease will bring additional revenue to the district of about $150,000. The items were included in the business consent motion that the board moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

Context and next steps: Dr. Bronstein had circulated a playground rendering to trustees, Amanda said.
