Commissioners signal support to advance $48,790 MHTN feasibility study for Weaver Block-Weber Center connection

Weber County staff asked commissioners Aug. 4 to endorse advancing a $48,790 feasibility study by MHTN Architects to analyze the Weaver Block project’s connection to the Weber Center, including east elevation, internal reorganization options, and cost estimates.
Staff said MHTN would use existing drawings, site observations, stakeholder interviews and an inventory of existing space to develop options, renderings and phasing recommendations for a parking structure connection to the Weber Center. The original proposal totaled $53,190; staff negotiated a reduction of $4,400 by incorporating previous work from EDA Architects and added termination language allowing either party to end the agreement.
Commissioners expressed support for the study, noting renderings and elevations would help the county decide on options for relocating high-traffic departments and addressing parking and security concerns. One commissioner said the study was “a wise investment” given possible Department of Defense (DOD) interest in a secure space and ongoing conversations with Weber State and Ogden City.
Commissioners indicated consensus during the work session for staff to bring the MHTN proposal to a future commission meeting for formal consideration and possible contract authorization. Staff said the study’s timetable would run several months and could be paused or terminated if needed.
