Southborough pushes community needs survey toward target; Trendline slated to present final report Nov. 4

Southborough’s Youth Commission is stepping up outreach to complete its community needs assessment after staff told commissioners Aug. 12 that 318 responses have been collected and the vendor Trendline recommends 366 responses for statistical significance.
Director Sarah Mikas said Trendline will present the final report at the commission’s Nov. 4 meeting, and staff proposed using that meeting time for the presentation so the public can attend. “Trendline also puts together this interactive dashboard that we can use to sort of change the variables,” Mikas said, describing the vendor’s deliverable.
Why it matters: the needs-assessment results will feed the commission’s next strategic-planning phase and inform program priorities.
Staff described several outreach tactics intended to push survey completion to the target: QR codes at events and open houses, 500 outreach bags being prepared for fall school events, paper copies when useful and iPads or similar devices when feasible. Commission members identified opportunities to share the survey at a town blood drive and at school open houses; staff said they will provide flyers and asked commissioners to publicize the survey through personal and organizational networks.
Mikas said staff are considering the Public Safety Building as the likely venue for the Nov. 4 Trendline presentation because the building offers hybrid meeting technology and recording capability, but location was “to be determined.” The director also said September outreach will include curriculum nights and self-guided tours at schools, which should give staff more opportunity to staff resource tables.
Commissioners agreed to tentatively meet remotely on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. and in person on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.; final scheduling depends on quorum confirmation and venue availability. Staff said they will circulate sign-up sheets for Heritage Day volunteer slots and confirm staffing for school open houses.
