The Manitowoc Public School District board approved the finance committee's recommendation to retain two law firms to provide legal counsel and representation for the 2025–26 school year. The finance and facilities committee recommended Von Briesen and Roper and Balu and Vedder, and the full board voted to approve the selection.
Committee members said the district has benefited from both firms' distinct expertise. The recommendation carried in committee by a 3–0 vote and was presented to the full board for approval. "Each law firm has their own specificity and their own specific qualities, and it is felt by the administration and his team that the district has been served well by utilizing both legal firms," said a committee representative.
The motion came from the finance committee; Mr. Abel seconded the motion during the full-board meeting. The full board approved the selection by voice vote.
The firms will be available to advise the board and the district on a range of matters; the administration asked trustees to formally confirm counsel at the board level going forward.
