Gage County accepts $54,405 juvenile justice grant to support diversion and related services

The Gage County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to accept a state juvenile justice grant award of $54,405 and authorized the chair to sign the grant documents.
Christina Lyons, who said she is acting as the county’s diversion director, told the board the grant covers staffing for diversion (a director and part-time positions), detention-support funding of about $6,000, monitoring and tracker services, and community coaching efforts. Lyons said the grant also funds her time organizing community resources and that the county’s diversion program coordinates with schools and local providers.
Supervisors and staff discussed moving some diversion coordination from school administration to county administration in future budgeting to avoid conflicts with school tax caps. Lyons said the grant period begins July 1, 2025, and noted that this year the grant was awarded without contingencies that had appeared in prior years.
Supervisor Jurgens moved to approve; Supervisor Dorn seconded. The motion carried 6-0.
