Board highlights community partners and Westview Elementary ribbon cutting

Board members used Aug. 7 remarks to spotlight community partners and to recognize staff and community members involved with the Westview Elementary ribbon cutting.

A board member said GoodLovin’ bakery is a district community partner and that “50¢ from every cookie purchased will be donated to the North Hills Foundation. So I have just contributed $6 to the foundation this evening.” The board member presented sample cookies in the meeting and encouraged patrons to buy specialty items from partners, noting Westview Brew would donate 20% of specialty item sales and that a “scholar pizza” product sold at Frank’s had been popular with district families.

Several board members and a public commenter praised last night’s ribbon cutting and the renovated Westview Elementary building. One board member recognized “custodians, the teachers, the secretaries, and of course, assistant principal Caitlin Hoke and principal Jesse Simpson who really kept that building running during this renovation.” Another board member said the individual selected to cut the ribbon reflected the school community; a public commenter, who identified himself during public comment as a resident, called the building “a whole new building” and said he expected “the whole community will benefit.”

The public commenter also praised an academic quiz team that finished second out of 81 schools and congratulated coaches and teachers; the transcript attributes the praise and several specifics about the competition to that commenter.
