District 128 administration told the Program Personnel Committee it will seek amendments to administrator contracts to align certain benefits with recent changes negotiated in the teacher collective bargaining agreement.
Staff said the proposed amendments would adjust language for sick leave, bereavement leave, parental leave, and retirement eligibility for certain administrators. Administrators not currently in a retirement contract who subsequently declare retirement would become eligible for retirement benefits tied to accrued sick days, staff said. The proposal also would raise a tax-sheltered annuity match for four tier-2 TRS administrators from $1,600 to $1,700.
Lisa (staff) told the committee roughly 50 ten- and 12-month administrators are affected. Staff characterized the overall fiscal impact as minimal: the additional $100 match for four tier-2 administrators was estimated to cost the district about $400 total (staff noted the employee must contribute the funds to trigger a match). Other costs (sick days, bereavement, parental leave) were described as difficult to precisely quantify; staff explained some administrators’ absences do not require substitute pay because substitutes are not used for certain administrator positions.
Committee members asked about total cost and whether the items were budgeted. Staff said the $1,700 figure had been included in budget calculations as part of tier-2 budgeting practices; other impacts were described as minimal and not expected to materially change the district’s budget. The committee did not take formal action at the meeting; staff will present the contract amendments to the full board for consideration.
