The Terre Haute City Council on Aug. 7 approved an appropriation from the casino fund to increase principal and interest lines so the city can pay off two public-safety leases, City Controller Jessica Thome said. "Paying off these two leases will eliminate recurring payments in the amount of about $165,000 per year in PSLIT," Thome said. She identified the leases as the police department's night-vision goggles (about $387,000) and 2025 police vehicles (about $580,000) and said the casino fund has produced healthy revenue this year. Thome said casino revenue this year has produced about $6,700,000 and a total of about $8,500,000 since the revenue stream began. If the appropriation is approved, the city will have paid off about $1,900,000 in public-safety leases to date; she said the administration plans to request another appropriation in October to pay off additional fire department leases. Council moved and approved the appropriation after a motion to take action and a subsequent adoption motion; the council approved the measure by voice vote.
