The Committee of the Whole approved an ordinance authorizing the director of capital projects and/or the director of Parks & Recreation to enter into agreements with the Board of Park Commissioners of Cleveland Metroparks for development, operation and maintenance of an Irishtown Bend Park and Trail.
MOCAP staff described the item as a project that follows the ongoing Irishtown Bend bank‑stabilization work. Westin CMG GBC LLC (developer) and Metroparks will fund and maintain a historical marker and park elements; the city will transfer certain parcels to the city per prior ordinance and then enter a project development agreement with Metroparks for construction and a long‑term lease (up to 99 years) for operation and maintenance. Metroparks staff were at the table and described the project as expanding public access, linking to the Cleveland Foundation Centennial Trail (Lake Link Trail) and providing a programmed park with trail connections.
Council members supported the proposal and the ordinance advanced to the full council for consideration.
