A Jefferson County judge on Tuesday set a $20,000 bond and ordered a SCRAM (secure continuous remote alcohol monitor) device as a condition of release for Courtney Joseph, who faces a motion to revoke deferred probation. The motion alleges multiple new offenses, including driving while intoxicated with a child passenger and resisting arrest.
Court records in the hearing show Joseph was on a five-year deferred probation that began Dec. 11, 2023, for assault on a peace officer. The revocation motion alleges an incident at about 10:17 p.m. in Orange County that included the new DWI with a child passenger, resisting arrest and out-of-county travel without permission. Probation also reported unpaid fees.
Defense counsel questioned Joseph in court about residence, household composition and income; Joseph said she relies largely on survivor benefits and had limited monthly income. The prosecutor said the state did not oppose setting a reasonable bond but requested conditions to keep the defendant from driving and to require an alcohol monitor. The judge ordered bond at $20,000 and required continuous SCRAM monitoring, restricted Joseph to Jefferson County (leaving without permission would result in immediate re-arrest) and warned that a positive alcohol detection would result in revocation and return to custody.
The court said the motion would be reset for a regular announcement so the parties could continue processing the case. Defense counsel was directed to email the bond order to the court clerk.
