Savannah‑Chatham schools report largely smooth opening week; attendance, facilities and transportation monitored

The Savannah‑Chatham County Board of Public Education received a report Aug. 13 on the district’s first week of the 2025‑26 school year, with district leaders saying more than 35,000 students attended the first day of classes and operations teams served about 27,000 breakfasts and lunches on Monday, Aug. 4.

District leaders said the opening week went smoothly overall but highlighted ongoing work on attendance monitoring, facility repairs and early transportation congestion. “It is a true sentiment of ‘together we can,’ ” Superintendent (name not specified) said, thanking families and staff for their work during the start of the year.
