The Utility Service Board approved a $79,800 contract with Poindexter Excavating to haul and dispose of a spoil pile at the utility’s 50 Third Street compound.
Paul, the utility superintendent, told the board the material is from main breaks and includes asphalt mixed with soil and therefore must be taken to an appropriate disposal site. Paul said, “They have a site that they all want to. Poindexter will be taking that to a proper site to dispose of it.” A board member asked whether the material would go to a landfill; the superintendent replied that it would be disposed of legally and that reuse was not currently an option unless a construction site needed fill.
The agreement covers loading, hauling and disposal of the stockpile. The board moved and seconded the contract; after a voice vote the motion carried. The superintendent said the work should allow staff to “wrap that project up.”
The contract approval was part of the meeting’s new-business agenda and follows staff reports about ongoing utility repairs and related construction conflicts elsewhere on the system.
