Parks staff told the St. Lawrence Board of Parks and Recreation that the city’s common council plans to announce $143,000 in GO bond capital improvement funding to the parks department at the Aug. 20 council meeting. Staff said the funds will be directed to projects including an ADA-compliant trail upgrade at Veterans Park, and accessible playground components at Richards Street Park and other sites. Director Martin said roughly $36,000 earmarked for playground equipment can be paired with a vendor match from GameTime that would effectively double the purchasing power to about $72,000 for a modular playground unit. Staff noted the GameTime match applies only to eligible equipment and requires a cash purchase, and that final procurement and installation timelines depend on ordering lead times. When asked about timing, staff estimated equipment lead times of about six to eight weeks for manufactured units delivered from Fort Payne, Alabama, and said installation typically can be completed in a few days once equipment arrives. Staff said at least one playground purchase could feasibly be installed during the winter to be ready for spring use. The board characterized the announcement as a preview of council action, not a completed transfer of funds. Staff said officials resolved initial confusion about funding source and that projects will proceed once the council formally turns over the bond funds.
