County staff read the proclamation noting the festival was established in 1971 and that the village of Hatch would host its 53rd Hatch Chile Festival over Labor Day weekend, featuring chile-based foods, a parade, entertainment and a royalty contest. The proclamation text cited an expectation that the festival draws more than 40,000 visitors and described Hatch as the "chili capital of the world." County Manager Scott Andrews signed the proclamation for August 2025.
Speakers from Hatch and the festival committee accepted the proclamation and described the event's cultural and economic benefits to the valley, the county and the state. The board's recognition is ceremonial; no funding decisions were made at the meeting.
Staff provided a festival website for details and encouraged residents to attend the Labor Day weekend events.
