Pacific Grove school officials, police step up safety work after student struck by vehicle

A Pacific Grove student who was struck by a vehicle on the first day of classes is out of surgery and recovering at a hospital, Pacific Grove Unified School District leaders told the board Aug. 7. School and city officials said they have stepped up safety patrols and will pursue education and engineering steps to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
District leaders said the student’s family reported that doctors said a helmet likely saved the student’s life. The district said the family was “extremely, extremely happy with how things have gone so far” and that staff and the school community have been in close contact with the family.
