The city manager told the Winter Haven City Commission that a city vehicle was completely consumed by fire outside the garden center while employees were performing routine work. One employee was transported to Tampa General Hospital for treatment of burns, the city manager said, and the vehicle was a total loss.
"I am happy to report that he is doing well," the city manager said, adding officials expected the employee to be released from care later the same day or the following day. The manager said only a front tire and perhaps a headlight might be salvageable and praised police and fire personnel for their emergency response.
The manager identified Deputy Manager Hunt as present at the scene assisting the injured employee and commended the compassion and competence of firefighters and paramedics. The transcript records no cause for the fire and no formal city action beyond the incident report and recognition of staff response.
Why it matters: employee injury and vehicle loss prompted emergency medical response and will require incident follow-up; the city will provide updates on the employee's condition.
Next steps: city staff said they will provide further updates on the employee; no regulatory or policy response was recorded in the meeting.
