Polk County signs on to additional opioid MDL settlements including Purdue and Sandoz

Polk County Commissioners authorized participation in newly negotiated settlements in the national prescription‑opioid multidistrict litigation (MDL No. MDL‑284), covering Purdue, certain affiliates, and several manufacturers and distributors. The county’s outside counsel, Haley & Olsen, presented three additional settlements and asked the court to approve them together to streamline filings with the court.
Judge Clark said the settlements are similar to prior agreements with manufacturers and pharmacies and advised the court that the deadline for participation in the Purdue‑Sandoz component is Sept. 30, and the court would like to return releases before Oct. 8. The County’s participation would receive the same participation amount structure as prior settlements the county has entered with other defendants.
Commissioner Robertson moved to approve and Commissioner DuVos seconded; the court recorded an affirmative voice vote and the motion carried. County officials authorized the county attorney’s office and other authorized officials to execute participation and release forms necessary to finalize Polk County’s participation in the settlements.
