City staff told the Decatur City Council that the U.S. Department of Transportation has rescinded the construction portion of Decatur’s 2023 Reconnecting Communities neighborhood-access grant but that the obligated design funds remain available. At a council meeting update, a staff member said the rescinded amount was described in the letter as “the 16,000,000, $25,523.48” and that the city still has the obligated portion of “2.382 for the Design.” The staff member said the design work continues and that staff expect to convene the neighborhood committee and a public review within about 30 to 60 days. The staff member described next steps as additional neighborhood committee meetings and public comment sessions prior to any construction re-submittal. No construction timeline or new funding plan was presented at the meeting.
