The Homewood Planning Commission on Aug. 5 voted 6-0 to rescind its July 8 approval of case RS25‑07‑04, which had proposed a resurvey and subdivision of the former Homewood Police Station property into two lots to facilitate redevelopment. The commission cited the city council's decision not to act on a companion rezoning and the absence of a contract on the property.
A commissioner noted, “there's no more contract on the property,” and moved to rescind the prior approval. The motion identified case RS25‑07‑04 as the resurvey and referenced RS25‑07‑05 as the companion rezoning. Another commissioner seconded the motion; the commission recorded unanimous support and the rescission passed by a 6-0 vote.
The rescinded approval had provided for the resurvey and subdivision of the former Homewood Police Station site located at 183320 Ninth Avenue South into two separate lots intended to facilitate redevelopment. Commissioners and staff discussed whether the lack of a current contract or action by the City Council meant the resurvey and subdivision could not proceed; the commission concluded it should rescind its prior approval.
Staff also announced there will be no planning commission meeting in September because no cases were submitted for consideration. Staff said the commission typically holds elections for officers in September and that they expect to establish a nominating committee and consider a slate of officers at the October meeting. The commission adjourned after the rescission and staff communications.
Action summary: motion to rescind the planning commission's previous approval of case RS25‑07‑04 (adopted 07/08/2025) passed 6-0; the item will not proceed to resurvey/subdivision while there is no associated rezoning or contract in place.
