City committee authorizes $4,050 battery replacement for server-room UPS

Homewood 'The finance committee authorized Aug. 4 a $4,050 proposal from Eaton Corporation to replace batteries in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that supports the city's core server room.
IT Director Brandon (presenter) told the committee Eaton inspected the unit under a maintenance contract and recommended battery replacement. "They recommend replacing them every 5 years," Brandon said; staff reported the batteries currently installed are older than five years and need replacement.
Committee members asked about downtime and longevity; staff said Eaton would put the UPS in maintenance mode and expected no downtime during replacements. The committee approved the proposal by motion and vote (4-0 in committee).
Action: authorization for the city manager to sign Eaton's proposal for $4,050 was approved by the committee; staff will schedule the replacement and invoice per the contract.
