The Homewood City Council on Aug. 11 accepted a $5,000 Homewood Community Grant and approved use of existing department funds to complete purchase of a turnout-gear washer extractor. The Fire Chief told councilors the mayor had informed him of the county grant and "we applied and got it." The extractor costs $6,800, and the department has the remaining funds in its budget to cover the balance. Councilors approved acceptance of the grant and the purchase; the council recorded the action as resolution 205-1138. The Fire Chief said staff were ready to place the order once the council approved grant acceptance.
