Council carries over restriping plan for Oxmoor Road at St. Charles after business loading concerns

The Homewood City Council on Aug. 11 carried over consideration of restriping options at the Oxmoor Road and St. Charles intersection to allow further input from business owners and traffic engineers. A Public Safety committee representative, Mr. Kwatnick, told the council the committee had voted 5-0 to recommend the restriping and had referred funding for phase 1 changes to finance/budget hearings. Mr. Kwatnick said the council could restripe the area in several ways, including converting a turn lane to two through lanes or using cross-hatching, and that staff planned meetings with local business owners before finalizing a design. The council discussed concerns that removing the turn lane could affect truck unloading and loading at nearby businesses; those concerns led members to carry the item over for additional stakeholder meetings and staff follow-up. The council did not adopt a resolution at the meeting and did not set a new committee referral; staff indicated traffic engineering would have discretion on final striping after input. The item will return to the council agenda after the scheduled meetings are complete.
