Dalton approves two telecom easement sales; attorney reports Comcast backpay

The Village of Dalton on Aug. 4 approved two resolutions authorizing the sale of telecommunication easements to Tower Point Acquisitions LLC.
Resolution 25-011 authorizes sale of a telecommunication easement at 14440 Greenwood Road for $228,000; Resolution 25-012 authorizes sale of a telecommunication easement at 401 East 140th Street for $336,000. Both measures passed by roll call vote after motions from Trustee Kiana Belcher and seconding by Trustee Brittany Norwood.
Village attorney Michael McGrath said the sales followed negotiations regarding older lease arrangements. He also reported that Comcast agreed the village was owed approximately $160,000 in unpaid rent stemming from earlier periods when collections had lapsed under the former administration; McGrath said recovering those past amounts added to the fiscal benefit of the transactions.
Trustees said the easement sales will also generate ongoing annual revenue from the sites in addition to the one-time payment. Exact monthly revenue figures were referenced in attorney remarks but the board did not adopt additional policy changes at the meeting.
Clerk records show both resolutions were approved and staff said closings were expected within 30 days. Trustees asked staff to work with village counsel to complete the conveyances and to post closing details when finalized.
