Facilities committee reports summer work advancing at gyms, libraries, chiller and tennis courts

Council Rock School District facilities staff reported Thursday that multiple summer construction and maintenance projects are progressing on schedule, though a major pool HVAC replacement will likely not arrive until next summer. Linda Khan, a district staff member, presented photos and status updates to the Facilities Committee and staff. The district is finishing new gym-floor coatings at North and Holland Middle schools and is completing painting and new carpet in cafeterias and libraries, Khan said. She told the committee the finishing coats were being applied about a week to a week and a half before the meeting and that sports line markings will follow once shop drawings return. Khan said crews removed the old chiller at Newtown Elementary and installed a new chiller pad; the new chiller was placed with a crane on Tuesday. She said fence posts for a new enclosure were installed and that the old chiller remained in use as long as possible to support a summer camp on site. Tennis-court work is under way at the North courts; Khan said the district coordinated with athletic directors to use South courts while work continues and that the contractor that built the North courts will repair pockmarks on the South courts at no cost to the district. Khan told the committee that a replacement HVAC unit for the North pool, originally expected earlier, has been delayed and is now expected to be available in November or December but may slip to the following summer. “We feel it’s probably gonna slip even further than that,” Khan said, adding that the contractor will repair the compressor in the next week or two to keep the pool operational until a permanent unit is installed. Committee members and other board members generally thanked staff for the work; one committee member said they had visited the North site and were “really impressed with the work.” The committee did not record a formal vote on these status reports during the portion of the meeting in the transcript.
