Oakwood Schools Foundation, boosters and PTOs award nearly $40,000 in spring grants to classrooms

The Oakwood Schools Foundation, in partnership with the Oakwood Fine Arts Boosters and the junior-senior high PTO, announced nearly $40,000 in combined support for six teacher-led spring grants, the foundation's grants chair said at the May 12 board meeting.
"Oakwood Schools Foundation is delighted to fund 3 of these with more than $32,000 in support," Emma Butler, trustee and chairperson of the grants and programs committee, said. The spring grants include built-in microphones for the Rick and Jane Schwartz performing arts wing, iPads for the high school science department, a set of choir microphones for the auditorium, five digital video cameras and accessories for junior-high video production, a vacuum pump for high-school STEM courses, and six art panel displays for exhibitions.
Butler said the collaborative grant cycle supported teacher-led requests and credited community donors for ongoing funding. She noted the foundation and its partners have funded more than $1,000,000 in grants since 1991 and that this was her final presentation as grants chair after seven years as a trustee.
The board accepted the presentation; the foundation handed an over-$32,000 check to district representatives during the meeting. District staff said the purchases will be used to support curricular and extracurricular instruction in music, science, art and video production.
