Board approves personnel items, accepts Andrew Keating resignation and grants unpaid leave

The Oakwood Board of Education approved a series of personnel recommendations at its Aug. 4 meeting, including resignations, supplemental contracts, substitute lists and an unpaid leave request. The superintendent asked the board to accept several items under personnel: a supplemental resignation for an assistant boys soccer coach for the 2025–26 school year; rescission of a supplemental contract for a student council adviser; and the resignation of Andrew Keating, a physical education teacher at Smith Elementary. Under personnel recommendations the board also approved unpaid leave for Christy Zavino, an art teacher at Oakwood Junior High and Senior High School, effective Aug. 25–Oct. 10, 2025; amendments to the hourly rate for seasonal workers effective June 1, 2025; an amended administrator contract for the 2025–26 school year; a substitutes list for 2025–26 pending completion of required documents; and supplemental contracts and volunteers for the 2025–26 school year. These were approved on a single motion. The board separately approved a supplemental contract for an assistant boys soccer coach for 2025–26. During that vote the record shows two board members (Mister Reiter Garcia and Mister Wilson) voted yes and one board member explicitly said “I abstain.” The meeting transcript records additional non-affirmative responses during the roll call; the board clerk recorded the motion as approved. The superintendent presented the personnel items and noted appreciation for the community members named as substitutes and volunteers.
