County attorney notifies board of civil suit by local defendant; motion to dismiss scheduled

The McLeod County Attorney informed the board that an individual, Ryan Blazin, filed a civil complaint in McLeod County naming McLeod, Blue Earth and Meeker counties, the Minnesota Public Defender's Office and other parties.
The attorney said the counties have notified the Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust (MCIT) and that a single attorney is representing the three counties. The state attorney general's office is representing the public defender's office. The county has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit for lack of proper service and other grounds, and a hearing on that motion was scheduled for 1 p.m. the same day.
The County Attorney said no action by the board was necessary at the meeting and that staff will update the board at a future meeting after the court rules on the motion to dismiss.
Commissioners received the notice and no further discussion or board action was taken during the meeting.
