County approves $2,500 acoustic design for Century Hall using ARPA funds

McLeod County approved a $2,500 design scope from Witseth (Mankato) to study and specify acoustic treatments for Century Hall at the McLeod County Fairgrounds, to be paid from American Rescue Plan Act coronavirus relief funds (project 25-003).
The proposed scope includes measured reverberation times, desired targets, panel locations, sizes, mounting details and material specifications. Commissioner Wright, representing the fair commission, said events held in Century Hall have “consistent echoing” and that addressing sound bounce is needed to fully utilize the facility.
Commissioner Krueger also said the echoing is evident and that acoustical treatment is needed to make the building more usable. The motion to approve was moved by Commissioner Wright and seconded by Commissioner Krueger; the board approved the proposal by voice vote.
Staff will work with Witseth to produce drawings and specifications to guide installation of acoustic panels and related work; the board did not approve installation costs at this meeting.
