Suwannee County Sheriff Sam Saint John announced the nomination of Heather Henderson as the county’s new director of emergency management, saying Henderson meets the statutory requirements in chapter 252.38 and that the appointment will be submitted to the Florida Division of Emergency Management for recognition.
Sheriff Saint John said Henderson had been performing in the role during recent storms and has "a wealth [of] experience to ... fulfill the statutory responsibilities." He presented the appointment Aug. 5 for the board’s consideration.
A commissioner stated on the record that, because an audit of emergency management is ongoing, he was not comfortable confirming any appointment until the audit is complete. No motion to confirm the appointment was made; the board did not act on the appointment at the meeting and staff said the item will be brought back later.
