Planning commission backs town plan to extend 16‑inch water main on Imperial Boulevard

The Smyrna Municipal Planning Commission on Aug. 7 voted to recommend that the Town Council acquire easements to extend a 16‑inch water main along Imperial Boulevard to Rock Springs Road.
Kevin, planning staff, told the commission the town will extend the existing 16‑inch line at the north end of Imperial Boulevard and connect it to a 6‑inch line near Rock Springs Road. He said the work is part of a broader initiative to increase fire flow capacity in older sections of Smyrna where current mains limit new development or firefighting capacity.
The commission reviewed a map and an ownership spreadsheet detailing parcels affected by the proposed easements; staff recommended the acquisition as consistent with the town’s comprehensive plan. Commissioners asked whether road improvements were planned along the route; staff said no road reconstruction is planned at this time and that the town will repair any surface damage caused by construction.
The commission voted to forward a positive recommendation to the council, a required step before the town acquires the easements.
