McLeod County accepts $610,988 behavioral health grant to expand crisis services

McLeod County approved a grant contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Behavioral Health Administration that will bring $610,988 to the county to support mental health crisis and related services through Dec. 31, 2026.
Barrett Spores, health and human services director, told the board the contract covers services from July 1, 2025, through Dec. 31, 2026, and that McLeod County will contract with Canvas Health to provide telephonic crisis triage, intervention and safety/welfare checks, consultation with community professionals, referrals and community-based critical incident stress management, and the development of a mobile crisis response service.
Commissioner Schmalz moved approval; Commissioner Schotzka seconded. Commissioners noted the item advances a transition the county has been working on and said having the service available is an important step.
Board members voted in favor and the motion carried. No board members asked for additional conditions. Barrett Spores said the contract funds will go to an existing contract with Canvas Health that the county executed earlier in the year.
