Smyrna’s Town Council approved a resolution authorizing staff to obtain easements by negotiation or condemnation for the Imperial Boulevard water‑line extension project.
Planning staff explained the project will extend a 16‑inch water main along Imperial Boulevard to connect an existing northern 16‑inch line with a 6‑inch line at Imperial Boulevard and Rock Springs Road. The work is intended to increase fire flow and improve water reliability in an older part of town. Staff provided a map and a spreadsheet identifying property owners and the easements required.
Council asked whether the new line ties into the recent Front Street improvements; staff confirmed the Imperial Boulevard work ties into broader distribution improvements the town has been making to increase redundancy and fire protection. Council asked about phasing and coordination with road resurfacing; staff said the water main alignment is adjacent to (not under) the roadway and that resurfacing schedules will be coordinated so heavy construction does not damage newly paved surfaces.
Council approved the resolution and directed staff to proceed with easement acquisitions, including the option to use eminent domain where good‑faith negotiations fail. The town will coordinate construction timing with resurfacing plans and utility relocation work.
