McLeod County OKs consignment sale of outdated sheriff's drone to fund replacement

The vote, moved by Commissioner Schmoll and seconded by Commissioner Wright, passed unanimously after a brief presentation from a sheriff’s office representative. The sheriff’s office said the equipment includes a Matrice 210 drone that is no longer supported and “will no longer be compatible with the software that allows us to live stream the video.”
The board heard that Vertex Unmanned Solutions of Plymouth — the company the county used to buy the drones — would handle the sale on consignment and that the bulk of the sale revenue would be earmarked for replacement equipment. No purchase price or timetable for bidding/disposition was provided at the meeting.
Board members did not request additional conditions; the motion passed and no further action was taken at the meeting.
The matter will return to staff if additional approvals are required to finalize sale or replacement procurement.
