Bee County withdraws vote on free tire‑disposal trailer after commissioners flag staffing, security and logistics

Commissioner DeWitt and others pressed for operational details: who would load tires into the trailer, who would staff and monitor the site during open hours, whether Road & Bridge could spare employees, and whether the locked Expo grounds would prevent overnight dumping. Commissioners suggested alternative locations such as existing gated collection stations (Skidmore, Mineral) and noted that several counties that have run similar programs required local tire dealers to perform loading to prevent misuse.
After extended discussion and a recognition that the grant deadline (Aug. 31) created a time crunch, Commissioner Lenny withdrew the motion and said the county should develop a detailed logistics plan before returning to the court for approval.
Why it matters: illegal tire dumping is a local nuisance and environmental concern; recurring grant programs can help counties pay disposal costs, but the court said staff capacity and security must be settled before accepting the trailer.
