At its Aug. 13 meeting the commission approved a permit (Case A-38-2025) for Normandy Remodeling to install one wall sign and one ground (monument) sign at 222 East Ogden Avenue. The motion passed in a recorded roll-call with all voting members recorded as “aye.”
Dan Olson, representing the sign company working with Normandy Remodeling, described materials and lighting choices for the signs and explained industry lighting values. “Industry standards is actually 7,000 for internal illumination,” Olson said, noting manufacturers now specify higher Kelvin ratings to standardize appearance. Olson said the applicant preferred a warmer 4,000K for the wall sign and that the ground sign would be face-lit with a moderated color compared with a previously brighter yellow logo.
Commissioners and staff asked about technical and site details: overall sign height (8 feet for the ground sign), setback (about 10 feet), the one-way driveway configuration at the site, and whether landscaping around the ground sign complied with previous approvals. A staff member confirmed the landscape plan had been previously approved and was included for reference. Several members praised the building renovation. A staff member, Scott, said, “The building’s looking great. What an improvement that is,” and commissioners noted they looked forward to seeing the completed installation.
The applicant said production typically takes about six weeks, and Olson estimated the business could move into the renovated space within three to four weeks once building-department approvals are complete. No conditions or special restrictions were recorded in the transcript; the commission approved the sign permit as submitted.
The transcript records no legal citations, permit fees, or a formal compliance timeline beyond the applicants’ construction schedule comments.
