Hinsdale creates Public Safety and Transportation Commission to review traffic safety study and advise trustees

The Village of Hinsdale established a Public Safety and Transportation Commission to serve as a forum between residents and the village on traffic, pedestrian safety and public-safety related transportation issues. The new chapter in the village code creates a commission with three voting members — two trustees and one resident expert — plus nonvoting stakeholder representatives from the business community and staff liaisons from police, engineering, public services and village management. The ordinance creates three-year terms and directs the commission to review the traffic safety study currently conducted by KOA and to use forthcoming survey results to inform recommendations to the board. Village leaders said the commission’s first phase of work will focus on the Central Business District with an open house tentatively scheduled for Sept. 2 and early-to-mid-September delivery of the first tranche of KOA’s recommendations. Trustees named the initial commissioners during appointments later in the meeting and discussed including school and transportation expertise among nonvoting members. Trustees approved the ordinance by roll call vote. Officials emphasized a phased approach — Central Business District first, then school zones and other corridors — and said the commission will use the public survey and an open house to refine recommendations before returning to the board.
