Council sets first reading for honorary street name honoring Levy brothers near Raymond James Stadium

Tampa City Council unanimously approved a motion to set a first reading for an honorary street name honoring Leonard and George Levy, civic leaders credited in the meeting with helping bring professional sports and major events to the city.

A mobility department staff presentation recounted the brothers’ civic contributions and recommended installing an honorary street sign at the southeast corner of North Himes Avenue at West Ohio Avenue, adjacent to a pedestrian crosswalk that leads into Raymond James Stadium. Staff asked council to schedule a first reading for Sept. 18 or thereafter and said the location would give high visibility to fans and visitors.

Council members praised the brothers’ civic work. Councilman Maniscalco said “I learned things about the Levy brothers that I didn't know,” and moved to set the item for a first reading on Sept. 18. The motion was approved; the clerk noted the city will post the item online for public comment beginning Aug. 8 through Aug. 25.

Ending: Staff will post the honorary-naming item for public comment and return the item for first reading on Sept. 18 as directed by council.
