Board approves retirements, personnel changes, assistant-principal appointment and 14 religious-exemption attendance releases

The Pennsylvania County School Board approved several personnel actions during its Aug. 12 meeting, including a retirement under an early-retirement incentive, district personnel changes, appointment of an assistant principal and releases from compulsory attendance on religious-exemption grounds. In closed-session business that was certified in open meeting, the board approved a request to waive school-board policy GVO‑PC to allow Roy S. Williams Sr. to retire under an early-retirement incentive program effective Sept. 30, 2025. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with all present board members voting yes. The board also approved a slate of personnel changes dated Aug. 12, 2025, as presented and discussed in closed session; the motion passed unanimously. Separately, the board approved release from compulsory attendance for 14 students citing religious exemptions; that action passed on a roll-call vote. The board confirmed a recommendation to hire Charlotte Casale as assistant principal at Chatham High School with an effective date of Aug. 13. The presenter summarized Casale’s background: six years with the division at Kentucky Elementary School as a teacher, 15 years as a gifted-resource teacher, a summer-school administrative internship, service as assistant director of Piedmont Regional Summer Governor’s School, a Bachelor of Science from Averitt University, gifted endorsement from Averitt, a master’s in curriculum and instruction and gifted education from Liberty University and an educational leadership endorsement from Longwood University. The hire was approved by roll-call vote. All personnel votes recorded roll-call tallies and passed as described in the meeting. The board did not discuss additional terms for the hires or provide salary figures during the public portion of the meeting.
