Board approves joint-use agreement with Parks & Recreation; administrators to determine distribution of $50,000 return to schools

The school board voted Aug. 12 to approve a joint-use agreement between Pennsylvania County Schools and the county Parks & Recreation department. Board members discussed tracking revenue and expenses related to Parks & Rec use of school facilities and how to allocate funds the agreement returns to schools. During discussion, a board member asked whether Parks & Rec would track income generated versus expenses incurred by the schools so the district could determine whether the agreement should be renegotiated. Superintendent Mayhew said the division would ask Parks & Rec (via Mr. Price or equivalent contact) if they could provide that information, and that administration planned to work with the chief financial officer, Miss Worley, to develop a fair metric for redistributing funds. Mayhew said the proposed changes are expected to provide $50,000 back to schools; the administration will consult principals and athletic directors to determine revenue impacts such as lost ticket sales and facility costs (utilities and upkeep) and devise a distribution plan. The board approved the joint-use agreement in a roll-call vote. The motion and vote did not specify a final distribution formula; administration was directed to return with recommendations and metrics for dividing returned funds among schools if appropriate.
