Candace Lackey, the Norwin Marching Band liaison, briefed the board on recent and upcoming band activities and fundraisers. She said band camp concluded last week and the group marched in the Kennywood Fall Fantasy Parade; the band will present a free fall preview show and festival at the stadium on Wednesday starting at 5 p.m., with food trucks and a first formal program presentation around 7:00–7:30 p.m. Lackey said the band’s annual mattress sale fundraiser will be on Sunday at the high school and that the Norwin Band Festival is scheduled for Sept. 20. She noted the program is affiliated with Bands of America and said several alumni competed at Drum Corps International in Indianapolis, naming alumni and their corps and noting high placements, including a fifth-place finals finish she attributed to a corps with a Norwin alum in the guard. No board action was taken; the remarks were delivered as public information from a community liaison and included event dates and fundraising details for community members.
