The Hastings City Council authorized the mayor and city attorney to sign documents accepting Fiscal Year 2025 Federal Aviation Administration grant offers related to an apron project at the municipal airport.

Staff explained that federal grant offers are expected and that bid packages for the apron project were received. Because of potential short turnaround times between federal offer and the next council meeting, staff requested authority to accept the grant so the city would not forfeit federal funding. The authorization passed 7‑0.

Airport staff explained the city’s matching responsibilities: the engineering portion carries a 10% local match and the construction portion carries a 5% local match. Staff also noted they obtained an additional $24,000 from the state last fall to help offset the city match. The council asked whether acceptance required a later council action to award contracts; staff said they will return with bid recommendations and a formal construction award at a future meeting.

Motion to authorize acceptance of the grant documents was moved and seconded and passed unanimously. Staff said they will present recommended bid awards to the council at the next meeting as the procurement process continues.
