Yelm proclaims Sept. 16 National Voter Registration Day; Thurston County reports 200,000+ registered voters

Mayor Joe Pinto issued a proclamation Tuesday declaring Sept. 16, 2025, National Voter Registration Day in the City of Yelm and invited Thurston County elections staff to speak about registration options.
Artur Tarabichi of the Thurston County Auditor’s Office Elections Division told the council the county has surpassed 200,000 registered voters and that Yelm currently has 6,409 registered voters. “Voter registration has never been easier,” Tarabichi said, noting residents can register online at VoteWA.gov using a driver’s license or the last four digits of a Social Security number and that same-day registration is available in person on election day until 8 p.m.
Tarabichi also outlined voting locations: the county’s main voting service office in Tumwater and an additional location planned at the Lacey Timberland Library for the November election. He said the office will continue the Vote at Your Library program and that library staff in Yelm have been trained to register voters.
The proclamation does not create any new legal requirements; it is a civic recognition and a local encouragement for voter registration ahead of the November election.
