The council approved a final payment of $151,414.45 to Cook Consulting LLC for the Smith Ferry Detention Pond project (Project No. 2023007) at its Aug. 11 meeting. Public-works staff described the detention pond as receiving runoff from Smith Ferry Road and discharging toward a downstream watercourse identified in discussion as Sand Creek. Staff said the project included an inlet structure to receive roadway runoff, a trickle channel to convey flow from inlet to outfall, and the construction of about 3,400 feet of four-strand fencing around roughly nine acres of pond area. Project details presented to the committee noted the work concluded successfully and that the contractor used hydroseeding instead of a slab sod approach called for in plans, saving about $118,000. Staff recommended final payment and the council approved the payment by roll call.
