Clallam County launches "Project Safer" form and fair pass for residents with developmental disabilities

Clallam County announced a Project Safer rollout that includes an informational form for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and a free fair-entry pass program tied to the county fair on Aug. 14. Kelly Lawrence, Clallam County developmental disabilities coordinator, said the form is designed to help first responders approach someone who experiences an intellectual or developmental disability. Individuals may complete the form online or in person at the county Health & Human Services office; copies will be securely stored at the Clallam County Sheriff's Office and dispatched to first responders during an encounter. Lawrence said fairgoers who identify as Clallam County residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities can obtain free admission for Aug. 14 at the front gate; registration is available on the county website but is not required to receive a pass on site. County staff also said Project Safer will provide an informational sheet that first responders can reference and encouraged attendees to register or pick up a form at the health department office at 111 E. Third St. County staff indicated the form allows individuals to share as much or as little personal information as they wish and that access to the forms will be restricted and dispatched to responding agencies only when needed. The county posted a link to the Project Safer resources in the meeting materials and on its website. County staff invited questions and said staff would provide the Project Safer link to the committee for distribution to local providers and families.
