Board approves clarifying amendments to county voluntary time-off policy

Summary
Supervisors adopted minor amendments to the county's Voluntary Time Off (VTO) policy to remove contradictory language about eligibility and to clarify that both exempt and nonexempt employees may participate, restoring consistency in county personnel rules.
The Board of Supervisors approved amendments to the Mariposa County Voluntary Time Off (VTO) Program Policy during the regular agenda on Aug. 5. Administrative staff said the revisions are largely editorial to remove contradictory eligibility language. The original policy text conflicted about whether the program was limited to nonexempt employees; the amended policy clarifies that both exempt and nonexempt employees may use VTO and that exempt employees should coordinate with Human Resources. The program, created during COVID, allows employees to arrange reduced workweeks by mutual agreement with departments. The board voted 4-0 to approve the amendments. County staff explained that countywide personnel policies are brought to the board for approval and that the item corrected inconsistent language rather than creating new program rules. No additional direction or changes to implementation were given at the meeting.
