County announces slurry-seal schedule for Independence and Bishop streets

Inyo County Public Works on Aug. 5 outlined a slurry-seal schedule affecting Independence, Bishop and Diaz Lake. Mike Arante, Public Works, said operations will begin the day after the meeting in Independence and run for nine days, then move to Bishop for six days and finish with one day of work at Diaz Lake.
"Nine days of work here between tomorrow through the eighteenth. Bishop will be starting on the nineteenth through the 26th, and they'll finalize work down in Diaz Lake for one day on the 27th," Arante told supervisors, adding maps and schedules will be posted on the county website and color-coded three days ahead so residents know which streets will be affected. He said American Asphalt is the contractor and door hangers and no-parking signs will be used.
Arante said staff are notifying stakeholders, including first responders, and that the schedule unfortunately coincides with the start of school bus service; he noted buses were not directly included in the contractor's notification list and staff are addressing that. The board acknowledged the outreach and praised public works for early notification.
