County Board leadership announced a forthcoming vacancy after board member Greg Ridenour submitted a letter of resignation effective Sept. 1.
The chair said Ridenour had turned in a resignation and that, following guidance from the county clerk, the board should not declare the vacancy until the Sept. 9 meeting. The board chair explained that when the vacancy is declared the local party committees (Republican or Democratic chair) will caucus to nominate a replacement who must reside in District 2; the nominated replacement would then be considered by the county board in a future meeting. The chair indicated county leadership hopes to have a replacement in place by the October meeting and to reorganize committee assignments thereafter.
The announcement was procedural; no vote was taken to accept the resignation at this meeting. Board members acknowledged Ridenour’s departure and discussed the timing for declaring the vacancy, caucusing, and updating committee assignments.
